It is red brown, steel gray to iron black and other colors, and the streaks are cherry red. Metallic to semi-metallic luster. Morse hardness 5.5~6.5, specific gravity 4.9~5.3. The hematite with iron black, metallic luster and flake is called specularite. Steel-gray, metallic luster, scaly called mica hematite, ancient Chinese called "Yunzi iron "; Reddish brown earth and dull luster called ochre, ancient Chinese called "ochre", and "ochre" generally refers to hematite.
